Imitators are everywhere, though perhaps nowhere more prevalent within the automobile industry.
The Jeep is the original off-road vehicle. Developed by the Army, deployed into the battlefields of the world, tried and tested (literally) under fire and threat of immediate harm. It emerged from that cauldron and found its way onto American roads, in the process becoming one of the true icons of the United States' manufacturing prowess and invention. It is a brand that has come to represent a lifetime of durability, strength and innovation.
So what happens when you have an innovator that becomes something of an imitator?
After all, Jeep may have invented a vehicle that would inspire what we now know to be the Sport Utility Vehicle, it didn't invent what we now know to be the Sport Utility Vehicle. So you have to wonder what it is that happens when Jeep imitates.
The result, it turns out, is the Jeep Renegade SUV. Here we have something of an imitator, but bred from the mind of an innovator. Here's where we see what an innovator truly can accomplish with someone else's ideas.
