Despite its very compact dimensions by American standard, the safety features built into the diminutive two-door are both extensive and impressive. Each Smart fortwo starts with a protective "tridion safety cell" that has been developed especially for the Smart to help ensure crash compatibility with larger passenger cars.

Inside the cabin is a study in paradox. Although it has a compact set of overall dimensions, the fortwo exhibits an amazing feeling of spaciousness that is comparable with a standard size sedan.
