Once known as the "Oil Capital of the World," Tulsa, Oklahoma is located next to the Arkansas River by the Ozark Mountains. Since the economic downturn in the 1980s, Tulsa has expanded its economy to encompass several industries besides oil, including aerospace, technology, finance, telecommunications, and manufacturing. Today, an American Airlines base is the largest employer for the city.

The city hosts numerous art and culture festivals throughout the year, including the Tulsa State Fair, an Oktoberfest celebration, and Tulsa United Film Festival.
The Tulsa Port of Catoosa, located on the edge of Tulsa on the Arkansas River, is the largest port in Oklahoma. This port is one of the most inland ports in the United States and exports Oklahoma's manufactured and agricultural goods. The city is also home to a variety of higher education institutions and includes branch campuses for University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma University.
