For the City Folk: 2019 Volvo XC40 compact SUV
The new 2019 Volvo XC40, Volvo’s compact SUV built for city driving, made its North American debut recently at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The XC40 sets a new benchmark for safety, design and connectivity in the compact SUV segment. The first examples will begin arriving in Volvo’s nearly 300 U.S. showrooms in early Spring 2018 as a 2019 model. They will be available via traditional purchase, lease, and for the first time, subscription.
To be offered in Momentum and R-Design trim levels, the new XC40 is Volvo’s third and smallest SUV providing a new expression of Scandinavian design. With the introduction of the XC40, Volvo completes its SUV range and offers three of the newest vehicles in their respective segments.
Power will be generated by a 2.0L four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine, with torque communicated to the street through an eight-speed Geartronic automatic transmission. All wheel drive is standard for both trim levels.
The XC40 is the first model on Volvo Cars’ new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), which will underpin all other upcoming cars in the 40 Series, including fully electrified vehicles.
The all-new XC40 will be different in other ways as well. Care by Volvo, Volvo’s new all-inclusive, negotiation free subscription service, debuts with the new XC40 and will be offered alongside traditional purchase and lease options.
The process starts with an online order and makes owning a car as easy as owning a cell phone. Customers will sign up for a two-year subscription online, which will include an insurance policy provided by Liberty Mutual, maintenance, service, tire protection and 24/7 Volvo Concierge and roadside assistance. There will be an option for customers to change cars and sign up for a new 24-month subscription as early as 12 months into their agreement.
