Dodge brings back a legendary nameplate with a big reputation for 2005 with the introduction of the Ram Power Wagon. Based on the robust Ram 2500 pickup truck, the Power Wagon is available in regular or Quad Cab body styles.
Extreme capability meets extreme truck in this latest model from Dod... Morege. Built at the automaker's Satillo, Mexico, manufacturing complex, distinguishing exterior cues for the Power Wagon include custom matte finish wheel flares, a two-inch taller stance and custom 17 x 8-inch polished forged aluminum wheels with 33-inch tall BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A tires. A large chrome Power Wagon badge is featured across the tailgate.
The brawny 5.7L HEMI V8 is the only engine offered and is bolted to either a new G56 six-speed manual gearbox with overdrive or the 5-45RFE five-speed automatic. The automatic transmission also features a tow/haul mode switch for towing heavy loads. The new Dodge pickup features shift-on-the-fly all-wheel drive as standard equipment. Its mechanical lever engagement along with its automatic locking front hubs make for positive contact when lower gears are required in less than favorable traveling conditions -- on or off road.
The Ram Power Wagon features class-exclusive electric locking front and rear differentials and a class-exclusive electronically disconnecting front sway bar. New suspension designs give Power Wagon best-in-class wheel articulation.
On the road, the Power Wagon is impressively nimble -- easy to drive at speed and easy to control. Its smooth ride and almost car-like handling on-road belies its no-nonsense, take-no-prisoners performance off road.
Capability for the Power Wagon starts with a rigid chassis featuring a full-length, hydroformed heavy-duty frame. The frame utilizes "boxed" sections that result in lower NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) and improved steering and handling precision. Other benefits of the hydroformed, boxed frame are fewer welds which improves dimensional integrity and durability.
With the ladder-type frame as a solid foundation, suspension hardware includes a solid front axle with coil spring design for better wheel articulation. At the rear, a new single stage leaf design uses softer spring settings.
Along with the standard 33-inch tires, Power Wagon features new 4.56 gearing, Bilstein high-pressure gas shock absorbers and a custom-built Warn 12,000 pound winch mounted in the front bumper assembly for serious off-roading capability.
Inside the cabin, the outward view of the road is outstanding. The 40/20/40 seating features a suede/leather fabric combination that is both stylish and comfortable -- front and rear. The large store-it-all center armrest can hold everything including a laptop computer.
The Quad Cab features four full doors while hand grips in both the "A" and "B" pillars facilitate entry and exit. The rear seat is a 60/40 split that folds up along with a fold out split metal tray providing a flat surface to easily stow cargo securely in cab.
