Though sometimes overshadowed by its Sun Corridor sister, Tucson is a gem of its own. Tucson was purchased from Mexico as part of the famous Gadsden Purchase in 1854. With a population just over half a million, Tucson is the second largest city in Arizona and the 33rd largest in the nation. It sits less than a hundred miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border.
Tucson’s pride and joy is the University of Arizona. Tied with Raytheon Missile Systems for the city’s largest employer, the University of Arizona provides an excellent Division I sports program, including one of the nation’s most successful Men’s Basketball programs in the country. The University of Arizona has also produced many successful political leaders, figures such as Bob Dole and Barry Goldwater.
This desert town experiences five seasons throughout the year: fall, winter, spring, summer, and monsoon.
